Hydrosphere explanation

 Hydrosphere explanation

The Earth is made up of many different parts, all these parts working together creates the earth system. But this system can be subdivided into four main components, (the four spheres). These subsystems or spheres are: the geosphere, atmosphere, biosphere and the hydrosphere. In this explanation I'll be telling you about the hydrosphere.

From small flowing streams to raging oceans the hydrosphere covers all the water on earth’s surface. But why do we need it? The hydrosphere is not just water that runs out of the tap in our houses. We rarely think about the role of the planet that keeps us alive. Humans use water every day, in many ways. Drinking water is the most obvious use, but water is also used for: washing, cleaning and in industries. Water is also used in generating electricity through hydroelectric power (or hydropower).

Those were a few reasons why we need the hydrosphere, but not only does the hydrosphere play a large role in our lives, it plays a major role in the ecosystem too. Many living things thrive in water, so the hydrosphere provides a place for many animals and plants. The flora need the hydrosphere because the water serves a medium of transportation and is solvent in plants. Water also provides stability and structure to plants.

The hydrosphere is one of earth’s four major systems; these four systems are very closely related. So closely connected that usually when something happens in one sphere it affects the other spheres too. For example, when water (hydrosphere) evaporates it creates clouds in the atmosphere, when clouds become too heavy it rains down to the geosphere. The water soaks into the ground and helps the plant and animals (biosphere). That is one of the more positive ways that the hydrosphere connects all four spheres. Another way the hydrosphere connects spheres is tsunamis. A tsunami is a massive tidal wave that destroys land and kills many plants and animals.

A different way the hydrosphere connects to the other spheres is the water cycle. What is the water cycle you may ask? The water cycle describes how water evaporates from the surface of the earth, rises into the atmosphere, cools and condenses into rain or snow in clouds, and falls again to the surface as precipitation.

In conclusion, the hydrosphere is one of the major importances to earth; without it human life wouldn’t be possible. And that is why the hydrosphere is so important and why we should look after it.

The volcano

The earth’s floor crumbled whilst  streaks of lightning cracked in the sky like a vast braided whip. Lava seeped out from within the volcano. The volcano, it seemed like a beast; evil beyond all reason!  Heat pounded upon me. Molten magma and lava enveloped the peak of the mountain. The earth shook, as torrents of golden death descended over the helpless countryside. More hot lava oozed over the side of the mountain. Clouds of volcanic ash flocked over the landscape cloaking anything and everything in its path. Chaos and ruckus reigned as the mighty beast awoke to smote his anger upon the world. In the starry night sky a sliver of white lighting in the shape of a snake’s forked tongue lashed out in the distance. I gasp in fear “Eeeee”. It felt as if my heart was beating out of my chest. ‘When will this mayhem END’?!

The monster poem

 The monster

It's hide is like a shaggy rug,

It's face is surly, ugly mug.

With two edged horns atop its head,

Between a mop of hair that’s red!

And in its nose, a ring of gold,

It smells like rotten fish and mould.

Its toes are black, its fur is blue,

I swear that all I tell you is true.

But you may ask what does this monster do?

Well here are some things that this monster can do.

They’ll sneak into your library and scribble in all your books,

When decorating your Christmas tree they tangle up all the hooks.

They’ll spoil the milk, they stop all the clocks,

They use their horns to put holes in your socks.

They’ll probably make you sleep too late,

And they will never ever wait.

They muddy up your tidy house,

They make you feel as small as a mouse.

They break your crayons, they spill your tea,

They wake up babies at 1:00 and 3:00.

They’ll make you forget all the things you were taught,

They’ll make you lose your train of thought.

They’ll dig up your garden, they won’t beg your pardon.

They eat your snacks, they won’t relax.

They chip your tooth, they steal your youth.

(And now you know the horrible truth).

Description - The Race

The race

As the runners come into view the crowd begin to cheer on all the athletes. The contestants' feet collide with the mud, leaving the terrain traced with footprints. Now the contender’s bright-coloured sneakers are as dirty as a swamp. Along with their shoes, mud is splattered up their legs too. Woosh! Another gust of wind is thrown upon us, on this blustery Autumn morning. Russet Autumn leaves dance in the wind. While watching the race some of the parents and other supporters fold their arms tighty to capture the warmth, as more cold breeze puffs past us.Cheering and applauding erupts from the crowd again as the athletes leap over the hurdles as agiley as a deer, springing over a fallen tree. They bound over the weather-beaten obstacles, then darting forward in a desperate attempt to lead the group. As the racers in front bolt ahead, only then do the others, taking up the rear come panting past. People cheer. Trying to encourage them, more of the crowd start to motivate and cheer on  the other sprinters. Their faces light up with happiness, as they continue to power through the course.Like icing on a cake, their shoes are now cloaked with mud. The clouds above are briquettes of recently burnt charcoal. The echo of the crowd dims down as some of the people look up, to see the rain clouds enlarging.Although the clouds have increased in size it has not started to rain. But all together it is a good race.

Obedience class

 Obedience class alliteration poem

Something was making a scene

Down at the park.

Big blaring noises and

Boisterous barks.

A bunch of breeds

Were lining up on the grass.

For big dogs and small dogs

Obedience class.

All behaved

Except for one.

It was the Baker’s beagle,

It had gone off for a run.

“Come back” barked the baker’s,

In their big booming voices.

But Bailey the beagle had made

Some very bad choices.

“Sit” screamed Mr and Mrs Salt

As their small pup ran away too.

‘Oh dear’ said someone

“What shall we do?”

“Down” demanded the Davidson’s

But their three had already dashed off.

“Daisy, Dexter don’t do that” yelled the Dunns’

But it was too late their dogs had taken off.

Soon they had taken off past mr. and Mrs tall,

“Dear, oh dear said the examiner,

A fail for all”.

Summary for Harry Potter and the goblet of fire

Summary for Harry Potter and the goblet of fire

Part 1

The novel starts with Harry witnessing, in a dream, the murder of a Muggle named Frank Bryce at

the hands of Voldemort. He awakes with a searing pain in the lightning-bolt scar on his forehead.

The next day the Weasleys take Harry and Hermione to the Quidditch World Cup using a magical

teleportation object called a Portkey. There, Harry meets Cedric Diggory, who attends the game

with his father, Amos Diggory. After the match, the Death Eaters, (Voldemort’s followers), attack the

site, causing havoc. The Dark Mark gets fired into the sky, which causes panic since it’s the first

time it has been seen in over thirteen years. Winky, Barty Crouch Sr.’s house-elf, is blamed for c-

asting the Mark after she is found holding Harry’s wand, which was used to cast the Dark Mark

The trio returns to Hogwarts, where ex-Auror Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody will be teaching  Defense

Against the Dark Arts. Albus Dumbledore announces that Hogwarts will host the Triwizard Tour-

nament, open only to students over the age of seventeen, and the prize for winning the tournament

is one thousand gold Galleons. It will be the first time in two hundred years that the tournament

has been held. Students from Beauxbatons Academy and Durmstrang Institute traveled to Hog-

warts and stayed the entire year during the completion.

Students who hope to participate must place their names in the Goblet of Fire. On Halloween nig-

ht, the Goblet picks Fleur Delacour, Viktor Krum, and Cedric Diggory, representing Beauxbatons,

Durmstrang, and Hogwarts. The Goblet also gives a fourth name, Harry Potter, causing controve-

rsy and suspicion since Harry is underage. Ron refuses to speak to Harry because he is jealous

that Harry is once again in the spotlight.

Hagrid tells Harry that the first task involves dragons and that Fleur and Viktor likely already know

about it. Harry communicates the information to Cedric in order to keep a level playing field. For

the first task, Harry has to pass a Hungarian Horntail to retrieve a golden egg, containing a hint

about the next task. Harry succeeds by summoning his Firebolt broomstick with the Summoning

Spell, and finishes the task tying for first place with Viktor. Ron reconciles with Harry after realizing

the dangers of the Tournament. When Harry opens the egg, it shrieks loudly.

Meanwhile, a reporter named Rita Skeeter is writing scandalous articles and embellished rumors

in the Daily Prophet about Hogwarts, Hermione, Harry, Hagrid, and the Headmistress of Beauxb-

atons.

The Yule Ball is approaching and Harry has to take someone with him, so he askes Cho Chang,

but she informs him that Cedric has already asked her. Harry eventually asks Parvati Patil and

Ron takes her twin sister Padma. During the Yule Ball, Ron is shocked and jealous to see that

Hermione attends the Ball with Viktor Krum. Cedric tells Harry that to open the egg, he needs to

take it to the prefects’ bathroom. Harry ignores him due to his jealousy over Cho.

However, as the challenge nears, Harry swallows his pride and takes the egg to the prefects’

bathroom, where Moaning Myrtle tells him that he needs to submerge it in order to understand the

song. He realizes that the next task will take place underwater, so he begins looking for spells

that would allow him to breathe underwater.

By the morning of the task, Harry hasn’t found a spell, but Dobby gives him Gillyweed, which

gives Harry gills when he eats it. The third task takes place in the Black Lake and it involves sav-

ing the person each champion cares about the most. Underwater, Harry looks at Ron and Hermio-

ne, unsure which one he is supposed to pick. Viktor takes Hermione to the surface. He completes

the task, finishing in third place, by rescuing Ron from under the lake and saving Gabrielle,

Fleur’s sister. After the judges tally the votes they award him second place, giving him more

points for saving Gabrielle.

One month before the final task, Harry and Krum are talking when they encounter Barty Crouch

Sr., who looks to have gone insane, but tells Harry to get Dumbledore.

The day my sister swapped me for a puppy (Part 2)

The day my sister swapped me for a puppy

(Part 2)

Mum and Dad are going to kill you when they find out what you have done.Oh Amelia, you are

so dead, sniggered Lucas.

Oh-no i’m not because they aren’t going to find out! Amelia exclaimed.

Ha, Yeah definitely, said Lucas sarcastically, as a smug grin smile spread across his face going from

ear to ear.

Oh Lucas don’t you dare tell, cause if you do I will not be the dead.

Then suddenly they heard the doorbell, ah ha i’m about to celebrate becoming an only child, laughed

Lucas as they dashed over to the front door.

Amelia came close behind, making sure he didn't say anything about the puppy.

As they had assumed it was their parents at the door, “Hi honey” they said.

“Amelia, your friend molly is across the road if you want to go say hi”

They went outside to say hi and saw Molly hanging up a piece of paper on a tree.

Hi, Molly what are you doing? Amelia questioned.

“Oh hi, i’m putting up lost dog posters, my puppy Lucky has gone missing”

Immediately Lucas ran into the back garden, grabbed the dog and ran back to Amelia and Molly.

“Is This be be your dog” He asked Molly

“YES Oh thank you, thank you, thank you” squealed Molly in excitement.

How did you find him?

“Well my hollow-headed sister basically stole your dog” told Lucas.

I am SO sorry I had no idea it belonged to anybody, I thought it was a stray, explained Amelia

completely out of breath.

“Face it Molly she’s a lost case” said Lucas rudely.

SHE’S my best friend, said Molly firmly.

George's marvellous medicine (as a poem)

George's marvellous medicine (as a poem)

I’m going out to shop, now don’t misbehave,

Said George’s mother as she gave them a wave.

George turned around unfortunate to see,

His putrid, old grandma demanded some tea.

George’s Granny was a grizzly, old grouch

Always sitting on her small, lumpy couch,

She had wicked, beady eyes and was always in a slouch.

She stared over her cup sipping her tea slow,

Then told George: “It’s silly to grow”.

“Boys that grow become stupid and lazy”,

George wanted to argue and say; NO THAT’S CRAZY!

Not only that she had more stories up her sleeve,

All of which wanted to make him leave.

Stories like slugs and worms taste good,

Far better than you think they would.

Hearing all this George wanted to gag,

But instead just ran away from the old hag.

Into the kitchen and on to the floor,

Then behind him he then slammed the door.

I can’t stay frightened of her all my life,

I must do something to set things right.

So-ho! Thought George suddenly. Ah-ha! Ho-hum!

I know what to do, he said, twiddling his thumbs.

I must give her medicine at 11.00 o’clock.

But today I shall give her something new,

Give Her a horrid medicine, that’s what I'll do.

George jumped up, happy as ever,

She’ll never suspect it; never, NEVER!

‘A magic medicine it shall be!’

So give me a bug, a jumping flea,

Give me two snails, and lizards three!,

And a slimy slug from under the sea,

And the poisonous sting of a bumble bee,

And the juice from the fruit of a deadly tree,

And the powdered bone of a wombat’s knee.

And one hundred and one other things as well,

All with a rather nasty smell.

I’ll stir them up, I’ll boil them long,

A mixture tough, mixture strong.

And then heigh-ho down it goes,

A nice big spoonful, (hold your nose).

Gulp it down have no fear,

“How do you like it, Granny dear?”

Will she go pop? Will she explode?,

Will she go flying down the road?

Will she go poof in a puff of smoke?,

Or will she fizz like a can of coke?

Who knows?, not I, let’s wait and see.

(I’m glad it’s neither you or me).

Oh grandma, if you only knew,

What I have in store for you.

To be continued …

WALT: Explain how banks work

How do banks work?

Intro [Hook and interesting facts]

Do you know what a bank is? Banks have been around for thousands of years. They are places to keep your money. Most of you probably receive money from: your Parents, on special occasions [like birthdays] or even from the tooth fairy, but usually kids keep their money safe in a piggy bank. Even though your piggy bank seems like a perfectly good place to store your money. When you grow up all your money won’t be able to fit all your money. So you will have to open a bank account and keep your money there. Now you may be asking yourself, how do banks work?

Paragraph 1 [keeping money in a bank]

Banking systems have been around for thousands of years. Banks are safe places to keep your money. Storing your money in a bank is one of the easiest ways to save. For one thing, it is user-friendly. When you have a bank account, you can set up automatic transfers from your checking to a savings account, it is effortless to instantly withdraw money from your savings. Having a bank account makes it easier to track where your money's at.

Paragraph 2 [Paying Interest]

Banks borrow and lend money to people like you and me. When they Borrow money from you they agree to make a payment to you for the money, this is called interest. For example, when you open a bank account you deposit $20.00, by having a bank account you agree to letting the bank borrow the money and use it to conduct banking business. In exchange they agree to pay you interest. For instance, with that 20 dollars you deposit, the bank pays you 2% interest which is an added 40 cents each year. If you don’t withdraw any money, then the total amount in your account will grow over time.

Paragraph 3 [Profit]

Now you may be thinking ‘How is this possible?’ Well when the bank lends your money to somebody, they are charged with a fee. In other words, when people borrow someone else's money they are not receiving it for free. They have to give back the amount they borrowed plus some extra.  For instance, someone borrowing $20.00 from the bank will pay back the $20.20 if the interest rate is 2%. This is also known as profit.

Paragraph 4 [Conclusion]

This is just a simple explanation for some of the many things banks do and how they work. Banks are trustworthy places that manage billions of dollars everyday. Their work makes our everyday lives more convenient. Without banks,we wouldn’t have a safe place to store our money for the future.  most people wouldn’t be able to borrow money to get things needed and use in our everyday lives.

The day my sister swapped me for a puppy (Part 1)

The day my sister swapped me for a puppy
(Part 1)

The world is full of calamity: tsunamis, earthquakes, birds choking to death on oil spills, floods, famine, war and  Amelia - my disaster of a sister. She is 8 years old and has the I. Q. of a headless chicken. Reading this you're probably thinking, can someone really have such little intelligence? Well yes, yes someone can and that someone is my sister. Now before I get into the story I will quickly introduce myself, my name is Lucas and today i’m going to tell you about the day my empty-headed,  little sister tried to swap me for a puppy!

Rinnnnggg! Went the bell at my Amelia’s school. Her and all of her friends started to dawdle home from school. Eventually all of them separated and walked back to their own houses. Then suddenly, something caught Amelia’s eye, it sat down, it glimpsed at Amelia then went back to staring into space. It was a cute, little puppy. “Hey there little fella” she said to it in a gentle tone. “Are you lost”?she asked.
The puppy whimpered softly.
‘Maybe it could come home with me’ she took the thought into careful consideration. Just kidding she did not take the idea into careful consideration what-so-ever, she saw the puppy as an adorable, helpless little puppy that she could just take home! So that’s exactly what she did.

As Amelia approached the front door she stuffed the puppy into her tatty, old school bag in hope that no one would spot her. While smuggling the small dog, (that was probably scared out of its mind trying to scratch its way out of her dark, smelly school bag), Amelia ran to the back door! Her hand could almost grab the door handle just when… Lucas stepped right out in front of her. “What ya doin’” he said in a mocking tone.
“Nothing, nothing at all”
“I know you're up to something”.
“No I, I ummm I just wanted some uh FRESH AIR, fresh air that’s why I, ya know need to go outside” Amelia stuttered unconvincingly.
“Open your bag,” Lucas ordered.
“Well you see I have a really bad report card in my bag and I don’t want you to read it,” Amelia lied.
“Ok, I know you're lying, first of all you don’t get your report in two weeks and”.....
But then Lucas got cut off by a bark.

“What was that, are you hiding something, oh my gosh you’re hiding something I can tell, is it a dog because the noise sounded like a bark, oh my gosh you've smuggled a dog” Lucas blurted out in a hurry.
“OMG do you read minds or something” Amelia yelled while unzipping her bag.
The Puppy jumped out, went through the cat flap and ran into the back yard.

Why we should be able to have candy in school

Why we should be able to have candy in school

YYYUKKK a soggy sandwich, an apple and a few other snacks!!! Right now I am describing an
image of the food in my lunch box sitting in my bag waiting for me to eat it. This is an outrage! If only
there was something more delectable to put in my lunch box to make it sound and taste more tasty… hmm, I know, candy, candy would be a great alternative to my boring lunch. Unfortunately, we aren’t allowed to pack our lunch boxes full of candy but today I’m going to tell you why we should be allowed to have more candy at school.

First of all candy and good times go hand in hand. Candy and sugar are directly linked to some of our most positive memories. On birthdays, we enjoy cake. The Easter bunny brings us baskets of sugary goodness and we can’t forget about Halloween. I am sure we all sometimes go out for a treat after a big game, and what would a beach trip be without some delicious ice cream? By playing such an essential role in our happiest times, candy and sugar have been linked in our brains to celebration. We naturally associate candy with positivity, such as joy, comfort, love, friendship and family. Even when we’re not celebrating anything, eating a piece of candy releases those feel-good brain chemicals that bring us a much-needed moment of happiness in our otherwise chaotic lives.

As well as candy being happiness in food form. Candy has physical health benefits too. One example is that it slows cancer growth. Cocoa beans contain a chemical called GECGC, which can help your body slow down the fastest-growing types of cancers. Not only does it slow down cancer’s growth, but it also speeds up its destruction. Science also shows if you eat candy at least a few times a month, you’ll live longer than those who didn’t eat any. What’s in candy that helps us live longer? You may ask. Well, scientists believe we can thank the antioxidant phenol and the chocolate ingredient cacao, these things can absorb free radicals. Left unchecked, these free radicals can cause serious damage to your body. So in quite a few ways, candy is good for your health.

And above all ... It’s just plain delicious! Now I think that’s almost impossible to disagree on. I mean who in their right mind could say they don’t like candy? Even if you don’t like all lollies and sweets, you ought to like some kind of treat. I’m sure most of you have read, seen or heard about Harry Potter. You may have noticed that in one movie he fell unconscious and after reviving was asked to eat chocolate.Eating chocolate releases endorphins in the body which do enhance one's mood. Candy is packed full of body and mind benefits and it also just tastes good. When you eat candy, it comes with a sweet, enjoyable flavour, one that can bring you happiness. The bottom line is candy does wonders for your mind, body and mood!

So the next time you find yourself, munching on a slightly bruised apple. Just think of all the wonderful confectionary you could be dining on at this very moment. Now if only we could have candy in school.

Thank you.

Sneaking to the supermarket

“Now girls you guys can go on a walk but not beyond the beach, and NO supermarket ”.

I was 9 years old, on a hot summer's day a holiday with my best friends Georgia and Ashley. As the weather was so nice my mum had let us go on a walk around this new neighbourhood.Unfortunately, she hadnt let us go to the supermarket which we spotted on the way to the house we were staying at. Nevertheless, we went anyway and ignored my Mums instructions.

So we had left the house and headed in the direction we thought the supermarket was. We arrived at a roundabout.
”We should turn right and go up that hill” stated Georgia confidently.
”No, I think the supermarket is just up ahead,” I said.
“Okay,” we all said, and we walked up the road but when we got to the end we just saw more roads, cars and crossings.

Despite our excitement and enthusiasm, I think we all had some second thoughts and reconsidered this outing. So the only reasonable thing to do was go back and try another route. We went back and tried Georgias suggestion of a route, it happened to be a longer than expected walk, but eventually we arrived at our destination.

Georgia , Ashley and I went inside the supermarket and bought loads of unhealthy foods and drinks that we knew my mum would not approve of. After our shop for all the junk food we went to pay. The machine would take the money, luckily for us somebody helped us and we left with our food. We started walking home, and suddenly we all went a bit mad and we all started laughing hysterically for no reason.

We had gone back the way we came and fortunately not gotten lost. When we got close to the door we stuffed the foods into our jackets so my mum wouldnt see. We got inside and ran to the room but my mum followed, she asked us where we had gone. With our hands behind our backs fidgeting vigorously in an attempt to hide that we had gone to the supermarket and bought loads of food, we told her that we had just gone to the park and back. She seemed to look a bit suspicious but didnt say anything
“Phew,” we all said in relief as my mum left the room.

We shoved most of our items we bought into our suitcases and went on as if it was a usual day. When the night time grew and it got later and later when we were supposed to be asleep, we crept into the kitchen and got some of the other foods we had hid in the large pantry. We went on our tiptoes not knowing if my Mum was awake or not. Suddenly, we heard a longcreeeeeek at the end of the corridor; which happened to be where my Mum was supposed to be sleeping. We panicked and all had the same idea to hide behind the breakfast bar. After a few minutes, we peeked out and saw the large but frightened black tabby cat.

Sighing in relief we swiped the candy from the counter and hurriedly went back to our messy room. Then we sat on the bed on Ashleys chromebook and ate all our food in peace, (besides from the loud cat crunching on the cat food). So in the end our reckless trip to the supermarket was a pretty much success although we got lost we still had our food, and to this day my Mum still doesn't know.
